Chemo - round one

We finished the chemo last night and Ryan did very well. They gave a bunch of anti-nausea meds prior to starting the chemo stuff and that worked well. He slept all night but had to get up every few hours to use the restroom (constant IV fluids going into him). Today he has been walking around and acting normal without any sign of feeling sick. Hopefully that will be how it stays over the next couple of days. The doctors said that the Cysplatin (chemo drug) can sometimes cause delayed nausea a day or two after the treatment so they are still giving him some anti-nausea drugs as a precaution. He has done very well and has not complained much at all. Since we got started a day later than expected, the doctors said we'll be staying at the hospital an extra day; so that means we won't go home until Monday. Oh well...whatever we have to do to get him better. Being on the pediatric Oncology floor for a couple of days is quite an eye opening experience. I think these kids are much braver and tougher than most of us adults would be in the same circumstances.
P.S. Mary Lee turns 39 tomorrow!!! What a way to spend a birthday.
