A new year

Sorry it has been a week since our last entry. The holidays went well and Addie and Ryan had a wonderful Christmas. Ryan's appetite has finally started to return and he is eating so much better now that the radiation is complete. He and Addie are extremely excited because we have reservations for three nights (this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) at a hotel with an indoor swimming pool in Knoxville. We thought it would be a great little getaway for them before the chemotherapy starts up in a couple of weeks. We are going to try and go to the Knoxville Zoo and do some other fun stuff on the trip, so they should have a great time.
Please pray for next Tuesday as that is the day Ryan goes in for another MRI to check on his progress and to make sure the tumor has not begun to grow back. Although we don't expect to hear anything bad, the thoughts of cancer are never far away. It is kind of like that proverbial pink elephant that is in the middle of the room but you try and go about your business acting as if it is not there. Cancer certainly puts the rest of your life in perspective. It is hard to care too much about anything else right now. Personally I feel worn down by the whole weight of what we are about to embark on for the next year with chemotherapy. Pray for Mary Lee and I to be renewed as this year begins so that we can be strong for our kids. It would be nice if as Christians we were always walking on the mountain tops but the reality is that for all of the peaks there are just as many valleys we have to trudge through at other times.

Hi Rob, Mary Lee, Addie and Ryan!!

I'm a friend of Grandma Jackie in Indiana. She and I became friends after making several trips together to Europe and other places. I was sorry to have her leave Indiana, but I'm glad she is there with all of you now.

I am following Ryan's situation and praying for all of your family. I have a great niece and great nephew about the age of Addie and Ryan, and that helps me to somehow identify with what you are going through, and to pray with the intensity that God will pay attention to.

Hey Rob and Mary Lee,

I just found out about Ryan and his bout with cancer from Janna. Can I drop by to see you guys when you come to Vanderbilt? Janna said you are scheduled to be there for a few days in January.

Hi Mary Lee, Ryan, Rob, and Addie! We want you to know that we have been and will continue to pray for Ryan's test tomorrow. We are claiming victory on the results of the MRI. May God give you peace and comfort tomorrow and the next few days as you wait to hear the results. The wait is often the hardest part and we will be praying especially hard for all of you.

Love,
Dana, Jack, and Jackson

Dear Carrigans-

I want to send you a word of encouragement from your own reminder, posted 12-25-06- "the light shines in the darkness and the darkness could not overpower it" JN 1:5 I write to remind you that even in darkness, suffering, pain and agony, God has won. It is because we have one who knows our specific pains, anxiety and cares, that we have hope. Go well. peace of the Lord.

I am a friend of Jack, Dana & Jackson Ashley. They have been such an encouragement to me as I have tried to minister to and encourage them. They are amazing people and I am so glad you all have become friends. God puts people in our life for a reason and not by accident. I will pray for Ryan as I continue to pray for Jackson and of course their families.

He is a mighty God.

Mary Lee,

I'm not sure you'll remember me, I'm Vicki Austin and I attended New Hope when you did and was
a friend of Jana's. I've just learned, via Brian Vance, about your son, Ryan.
Please know you all are in my thoughts and prayers. Your children are beautiful
and I enjoyed seeing pictures of all of you. My
email address is vaustin@frontiernet.net if you would like to write sometime. May God's peace,
grace and love be with all
of you.
